Admissions & Lottery Process: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is Lehigh Valley Academy a public school?

Yes. Lehigh Valley Academy (LVA) is a public, non-profit charter school. There is no tuition, and our admissions process follows our charter and Pennsylvania Charter School Law.

Do families need to attend an Admissions Information Session to apply?

No. Attendance at an Admissions Information Session is encouraged but not required to apply. These sessions are designed to help families better understand our academic programs, school culture, and admissions process.

What happens if more students apply than there are available seats?

If applications exceed the number of available seats at a grade level, LVA conducts a random lottery.

To participate in the lottery, all required application materials must be submitted by the application deadline.

When is Lottery Day for the 2026–2027 school year?

The lottery for the 2026–2027 school year will be held on March 9, 2026.

How are students selected or placed on the waiting list?

Students are enrolled or placed on the waiting list in the following order:

  1. Siblings of currently enrolled LVA students who live at the same address within the Bethlehem Area School District or Saucon Valley School District
    • If there are more siblings than openings at a grade level, a sibling lottery is held.
  2. Siblings of currently enrolled students who reside in other school districts
  3. Students residing in Bethlehem Area School District or Saucon Valley School District
    (LVA’s chartering districts)
  4. Students from all other school districts

What is a sibling lottery?

If the number of sibling applicants at a grade level exceeds available seats, a random sibling lottery is conducted to determine enrollment and waiting list placement.

Does being on the waiting list mean my child won’t get in?

Not necessarily. Openings often occur during the school year. When a seat becomes available, the next eligible student on the waiting list for that grade is contacted.

Does the waiting list carry over from year to year?

No. Waiting lists do not carry over to the next school year. Families must submit a new application each year to participate in the lottery or remain on the waiting list.

What if I missed the application deadline?

If you missed the application deadline (March 4, 2026), you may still submit an application to be placed on the waiting list for the following fall.

How do I apply to LVA?

Applications are submitted through the Admissions Application Portal, accessible on our website:

Can LVA verify residency during the admissions process?
